What is VenaSeal™?
What is VenaSeal™?
VenaSeal™ is a minimally invasive procedure for treating venous insufficiency, particularly varicose veins. Unlike traditional methods, VenaSeal™ does not rely on heat to seal the veins, rather a medical grade adhesive is used to close them. This innovative approach offers a less invasive and more comfortable option for patients.
The primary focus of the VenaSeal™ system is on the great saphenous vein and its extensions. This expansive vein runs from the foot to the groin and is vital in facilitating the upward flow of blood from the lower extremities back to the heart. Similar to other vein treatments like sclerotherapy and endovenous ablation, the goal of VenaSeal™ is to securely seal off varicose veins. This prompts the body to naturally reroute blood through nearby healthy veins. Over time, the sealed vein is absorbed and gradually fades away. This procedure typically takes under 30 minutes. Patients can resume daily activities immediately following the procedure. This procedure is conveniently conducted in one of over 20 StrideCare outpatient locations across the state of Texas.

What to Expect During a VenaSeal™ Treatment?
During a VenaSeal™ treatment, patients can expect a straightforward, minimally invasive experience. The procedure typically begins with a vascular specialist numbing the area with a local anesthetic. Following this, an ultrasound is used to identify the problem vein. Once located, a catheter is gently inserted into the vein via a tiny incision. The specially formulated medical adhesive is then skillfully applied, sealing the vein shut. As the vein is sealed, blood is naturally rerouted through healthier veins, and the treated vein undergoes a gradual absorption process, eventually becoming invisible.
Throughout the treatment, your StrideCare provider will address any concerns patients have to ensure they are informed and comfortable throughout the process.
Recovery from VenaSeal™ is typically swift, allowing patients to quickly return to their daily activities with just a small incision and a bandage covering the treatment site. It is advisable to avoid strenuous exercises such as weightlifting, running, or jumping for at least one week post-treatment. The bandage can be removed the following day, and patients may shower as usual. Over the next few months, the body naturally absorbs the treated vein. Most patients notice a significant reduction in the appearance of varicose veins within four to six weeks, often after just a single session.
