What is an Arterial Doppler Ultrasound?
An arterial doppler ultrasound is one of the most common and popular diagnostic tests to determine the health of a patient’s arteries and major blood vessels. This non-invasive and non-surgical diagnostic procedure uses ultrasound technology to get a view of the patient’s arteries underneath the skin without any incisions, scarring, or anesthesia. Patients are able to sit back and relax during their doppler ultrasound while our board-certified vascular specialists take a deeper look at their arterial health.
What are the Benefits of an Arterial Doppler Ultrasound?
Non-invasive, non-surgical procedure
Takes 45-60 minutes to complete
Can be used to diagnose a variety of artery diseases and conditions
No preparation, downtime, or recovery period
What to Expect During an Arterial Doppler Ultrasound?
On the day of the arterial doppler ultrasound, patients are asked to wear loose-fitting clothing that is easy to lift or remove if asked. Before the doppler ultrasound begins, the vascular specialist will apply a small amount of gel to the skin to lubricate the area of the skin that the ultrasound wand will glide over. The specialist will then press the wand onto the skin of the desired area to get a better view of the internal structures of the blood vessels and arteries. The entire ultrasound process typically takes 45-60 minutes to complete, after which time the patient can return to their normal daily activities, including work.
